Stealing pumpkin

Today is halloween. We stayed in and planned on carving pumpkins, but they were sold out everywhere in grocery stores. We were told the only place to possibly find a pumpkin is at the patch in Glendale. We drove all the way there, to find out that it's closed. From outside the fence, we could see a few pumpkins left inside.

Determined to carve pumpkin, we agreed to steal one from the locked up patch. Rabbit pried open the chained up fence just enough for me to crawl in from it's widest gap. I somehow got stuck at my boobs. Panicked a little, and finally got myself in. I roamed around the patch to find that all the left over pumpkins were damaged or rotten. No way to leave empty handed, I picked the better one of them all. I carried the deformed pumpkin like a baby and escaped the patch. I was a pro on the way crawling out.

Filled with adrenaline, we escaped the scene like band robbers. We were especially paranoid when we hear sirens on the way back. Funny thing is I didn't even feel like carving the pumpkin when we got back.

Road trip to Central Cali

Friday Rabbit, our bunny Standard and I left LA at around 10pm. We drove up the 101 to San Lois Obispo and crashed the night.

The next day we visited Hearst castle. It was an amazing site, but our tour among foreigners and old people was one of the most boring and uncreative. Unfortunately our bunny died that afternoon. We buried him at our hotel. We decided to temporarily tucked away our sadness, tried to not let it spoil our road trip. During the couple of days we drove to Montery, Carmel by the Sea and Big Sur. We saw some elephant seals, attended the Jade festival, and took the famous 17-mile drive.

The trip itself wasn't spectacular, but I had the most fantastic journey with rabbit, the greatest company. We had a blast everywhere we went. It was the little things that made the trip unforgettable... like having the best Egg Benedict on a floating restaurant, making fun of the Russian old man drinking out of his flask on tour, driving thru Big Sur Jade Fest and offering to trade our dead bunny for Jade, stopping at a random lodge in the woods so have a cold beer and hot mud slide at the same time, while entertained by local country musicians.

This was one of the best road trips I've ever had. I fall in love with rabbit all over again each day.

My first Dodger's game at the Dodger's Stadium. Bleacher's seating, all you can eat hot dogs... Got laughed at when I asked which team was the dodgers. During the half time chaos, we left to catch our friday night party. Well, hopefully next time I will have a better and more complete dodge's experience.

Today I got a bunny and named him Standard. He is the cutest little animal besides chino of course. He follows me around the house, stands up constantly to investigate me.

He is the perfect pet for me at this point of my life, because I am not home most of the time. He takes good care of himself. i just have to leave food and water and clean his bed. I am completely in love with Standard!

Home made tattoo

Last night I got my first home made tattoo! Carved with a X-acto knife, rubbed with indian ink. It was the most painful tattooing experience. Those 10 torturous minutes were many times worst than my biggest tattoo which took 5 hours.

This morning, I felt extremely proud of my new body art, and relieved that it was over and done. I gloat over the fact that I did something spontaneous, brave, and most of all full of passion.

Burning Man

My RV group had to leave Wednesday night without me, because I got swamped at work. So I started my Burning man journey the hard way. I went straight to the airport after work on thursday, took a flight to Reno not knowing what's next.

Once I arrived at Reno, I encountered several groups of people that were all heading to Burning Man. Luckily, I hitched a ride from a ranger that was there to pick up his girlfriend. What a perfect way to start my journey. During the 3 hour ride, the ranger shared many inside stories of Burning Man, both enlightening and horrifying tales. He preped me for the insane 4 days lie ahead of me. Once we arrived at Black Rock City, we bypassed the long line, avoided search, rolled in VIP style.

I got dropped off at my cordinance with just my backpack around midnight, I felt completely overwhelmed and out of place. Everyone was in their craziest costumes, streets were filled with bikes that were covered in neon lights, out of this world art cars roam the city. there were music and strange sounds in every direction. Fire breathing machines and explosions stardle me further.

I was officially lost at Playa. Not being able to find my camp, exhausted and freezing, I decided to stop at a bonfire and introduce myself. The friendly group turns out to be from france. They took me in like family, gave me food, drinks, and even lend me a bike to continue my journey.

After that everything was like a dream...

BIKINI CAR WASH FUND RAISER

Kimberley has broken her foot, and totaled her car all in the same month. I can't just stand by and not do anything! I rallied everyone together to do a Bikini car wash to raise money for her new car and hospital bills.

Frank's house seemed perfect for the occasion. We had a cash bar, hot dog stand, kitty pool, water guns, photobooth, 4 DJs.

This day was a blast! All the girls working were volunteers. Everyone was in great spirit, and genuinely wanted to contribute to a good cause. We splashed around to cool off under the blazing sun, posed for photos, washed cars non stop for an entire afternoon.

This was a great chance for us to bond, work towards a common goal, without selfish incentives and expectations. My real friends came thru on this, some drove from far just to donate to the cause, some worked under the record high heat for 6 hours washing cars. These people give me and Kim so much love and hope, we really want to continue the fund raise event in the future, to help other causes.

Our day started out slow. The sun was blazing, Sunset Junction was just waking up. After a few margaritas, and sundown, we as well as the crowd came to life. We danced to a few indie bands, a hiphop trailer dj, annoyed off all of our friends.

Before we called it a night, we had our last drinks at the 4100, there we fully came alive. Happy to bump into Travis before his big departure. The bar owner loved us so much, they bought us each a round of drinks. On our way out, somehow we ventured ourselves into a woodwork junkyard. This place was full of treasures... We like little school children, explored the place, knocked a few thing over and played hide and seek...

Cirque Berzerk

Tonight we escaped deep into the sexy, twisted, theatrical dream world of cirque Berzerk. The diverse, talented, demented crew was born at burning man. The act includes heart throbbing aerialists, fiery burlesque dancers, bone bending contortionists, trampoline artists who bounce off the walls, sensuous acrobats, operatic sopranos. The performance was raw, sensual, has an extemporaneous element. It was executed flawlessly, yet it still seemed unbound and erratic. We loved it...

The evening continues after the curtain falls. After party with the entire crew. Vaud and the Villains was among the hottest live bands I've seen. Kim and I danced right in front of stage with her crutches, kettle corn and beer in hands. We even sneak backstage since we fitted in perfectly with the performers...

The lovely brandi is back again. I did a commissioned drawing for her in 07 when I briefly became a full time artist. For several months I sold at least a drawing or painting a day, and was able to save enough money to quit my job at Nike. Being a full time artist was fun, full of freedom at first, but I realized soon that I missed the daily interaction with coworkers, challenges and problem solving as a shoe designer. my ultimate favorite hobby had became my job, obligation, tool to make money. It soon took all the fun out of my art and I quickly burnt myself out.

During that brief year of self discovery, I have learned so much about my ultimate goals/desires in life, my weaknesses, the balance between risk taking and happiness. What it means to do what I love also love what I do.

Painting Brandi again is nostalgic, a great check point for me. It brings me back to the moment 2 years ago when i just started paving. Now I can see my progress as an artist, my emotional balance and joy I get out of life is endless...

Brandi is dynamic and easy to work with. This time around she wants a face painting done. Now that I have a day job again, it's a lot harder with time management. But this time I am truly enjoying my work...

Camping in Carpenteria

This weekend we drove up to Carpenteria near Santa Barbara, and camped right by the beach. We cooked filet mignon, mixed veggies, corn on the cob on the open charcoal flame, took liberal shots of Patron, shared ghost stories by the camp fire as we were stared by its faces.

Timothy, my wisest 20 yr old friend, gave us each a spiritual reading accompanied by a back massage on the beach. Tim and his sister Racquel are both native Indian. They have strong connections with their spirituality, accurately read people's energy, predict past life, and are extremely gifted natural heelers.

Tim loosened my back tension with his amazing hands. After a minute of connecting with me thru his massage, with his soft yet firm voice, he spoke into my soul. He was able to see into deepest fears and desires. He pointed out what I could do to be happier, how I could evolve as an artist, how I can get over my fears and hold backs. Things that were very true and were buries in my subconscious mind. I was completely enlightened, inspired, grounded, connected with my true self and those that were by me. He forever changed me...

We were surrounded by the beauty of the nature, sand, sea, bright moon, the rainbow colored halo around it, the unusual clouds that shaped as a phoenix across the sky, even the beauty of the manmade giant oil platforms and boats that were all lid up and paired by their dreamy reflections. Rabbit pointed out that we could possibly be in the most beautiful location around the pacific ocean on that particular time and night. I think he was absolutely right!

The next morning, each one of us emerged out of our tents, energized, bounded more than ever. I felt reborn as I climbed out of the tent and was touched by the sun beam peaking thru the tree leaves. We were in our most natural state, no make up, no fancy clothes, our hair loose, faces covered in our natural oil, making us more beautiful and earthy. I felt in love with my friends. We finished the Patron, climbed trees, dived into the ocean. Everything was perfect...

I did end up in the Santa Barbara Cottage Hospital emergency room for skin allergy treatment, but actually before camping, when we just arrived. I must have came in contact with poison ivy. My skin broke out in red hives. Before it spreads, and ruins our camping trip, I did the right thing by treating it right then and there. I was given 3 kinds of medication, and was kept happy and relaxed for the afternoon.

Rip Current

Sunday, somehow we all ended up at Venice beach. We coordinated so well considering it was unplanned.

As usual, we exchanged words of wisdom, inhaled pizzas, drank tall warm beers in brown bags, and watched towering, record high waves punching down on the rocks.

Many swimmers were rescued by the guards in front of our eyes, as the rip currents push them further and further out to sea. The mesmerizing waves draw me to reflect on my life, especially my last relationship. I fought so hard to reach "shore", going against the current, hoping I would out swim the opposite force. When the best solution was to swim along side it until it breaks. I was buried for so long, no way in, not way out...

What doesn't break you make you stronger. I definitely came out feeling stronger, wiser, sexier than ever before!

Rabbit Strawfedora

I am so lucky to have met Rabbit. He and I have formed an instant magical bond. Perhaps I feel as if he is me in the male form, but that would not be modest since I would in turn be also in love with myself. Maybe perhaps then he is someone that I strive to be like or find.

As an artist, I appreciate, but rarely am highly impressed with art. When I walked into rabbit's loft studio, I was blown away. The unconventionality, boldness, expressive gestures, flowy strokes, range, scale, variety, beauty, depth... I could describe him and his art in so many words, yet there is not one word that can accurately describe him and his art. And at that moment I was speechless.

When our expectations dissolve from being jaded, our attitudes reflect our doubtfulness, it is definitely a breath of fresh air to meet someone who can change our outlook.

Today was pure ecstasy! Best times are shared, real friendships are essential. I am lucky enough to indulge in this day under sunshiny, on top of the city, beside some of the most amazing people.

Chris - cinematographer, my favorite neighbor who lives on the penthouse. He is one of the most friendly, generous, giving person, probably the best neighbor one could have.

Jen- DJ Notorious Jen. she has always been one of the most down to earth, kind, loving friend. Her and her special lady MK have always been there for me.

Rabbit - I just met him today. He has became my new favorite person / soul mate. Brilliant, extraordinary, beautiful, one of the most talented artist!

I couldn't have this much fun without such beautiful souls to share with.

Chinatown

Melissa came to visit before her trip. When I heard she hasn't been to Yang Chow in Chinatown, I had to take her to hands down the best Chinese restaurant in LA.

Luckily it's a Wednesday night, there weren't a full parking lot and an hour wait list. Staying safe, we ordered sizzling scallop and beef broccoli. Still the best as I remembered... fast service, delicious food, authentic yet with the right touch of fusion. And my fortune couldn't be more perfect, "Judge one not by his charm, but by his quality". Thanks for reminding me whomever is out there!

We topped off our meal with drinks at the mountain bar. Of course a photo shoot couldn't be left out!!!

Metro virgin

Riding the LA subway has been on my to do list. I have never been on it in the 11 years that I've resided here. Partially because I didn't live or work near a station. Mainly, I have gotten so comfortable with driving, I forgot my other options. Now that I live downtown, I actually rediscovered the convenience and fun of walking, biking... And now, for the first time taking public transportation.

My loft is one block from the 5th/Hill Metro station, I decided to hop on it with a day pass and just ride anywhere. I figured it's almost like stuck the TV to any channel and wish for luck, except this is real life entertainment.

An adventurous friend came along for this journey. We hopped on the red line. In no time, the perfect stop presented itself, Hollywood/Vine where the Arclight is. We even got to catch the last showing of Bruno with a cocktail. On the ride back a talented vet with a keyboard on a shopping cart followed us and gave us an amazing performance. This was way better than TV!

Metro is the best! Just this trip I saved on gas, parking, and I even had drinks without worrying about a DUI. I will definitely frequent the metro now, take it to Chinatown for Dim Sum, Long Beach to see Kim, and even West Covina for my folks. What a great new discovery.

The Getty for lunch

For a year I procrastinated to take my lunch at the Getty, since my office is across from there. Well I guess today is finally the day!

The "Woman Twirling" photography exhibit by Jo Ann Callis was my destination. I favor the rebellious, feminine qualities of her work. I can relate to her philosophy in art, which emphasis on simplicity, dramatic angle, creative use of props, movement and lighting. She is an inspiring late bloomer, achieving her success after marriage and children. One of my life long goals is to successfully balance family, health, friends and career.

I browsed thru the European 1300-1700 painting collections, stopped briefly to admire Van Gogh and Monet as usual. I felt like I was indulging in the richness, layers, lights/shadows of these masterpieces, or more likely I was just brainwashed by my art teachers and became a pretentious art snob like many.

Before hitting my lunch coma, I escaped to the outdoor garden. What a cute sight! Nearly everyone had a Getty umbrella to escape the heat. So I picked one up to get lost in the crowd.

tragic morning

Last night I woke up from a nightmare soaked in sweat, I toss and turned the whole night as the usual sound of siren echo. What a rough night...

As I walked out of the elevator this morning, the janitor, security guard and neighbor with dogs were adamant about me not going thru the back alley. I soon was informed that a person committed suicide in room 1005, and the body is in the alley.

What a way to start my week! I went thru the front entrance and walked pass the back alley. Sure enough there was a body laying on the ground, covered in a white sheet. I can still see the hands and feet. What a surreal scene... People are just going about their daily lives, walking their dogs, talking on cell phones, walking pass and taking a quick look, but go on quickly to catch the bus.

Is this supposed to be just a normal part of our lives? Where is life, there is death, as much as the living being in this world, the equal number of death occur... Yet this is the first time I've seen a dead body in person, besides going to grandpa's funeral.

On the drive to work, my mind plunged into confusion and grief. How fragile is life... In the same alley I walk thru everyday, blades of grass fight for the privilege of life, pigeons come drink and bath in the muddy water puddle and find it as their oasis.

I probably have met the person. One minute you are alive and functioning. A split second decision is made... and after a moment of impact, your heartbeat stops, your blood stop flowing in your veins, your brain and every cell in your body cease to work. There is no way back... What if you can solve your problem, or face it, or at least wait till the next day and you'll forget about it? Was is that bad, that hopeless, the only solution is death? The open window is an escape, but is it an answer…

Kim fractured her foot on Friday while skipping down the road. Carly and I brought yummy goodies and mental support to her lovely long beach home. It's heart broken to see Kim in pain since she's already had a tough journey. She is amazingly strong, and taking the most positives out of this unfortunate event. In her own words being on crutches makes her oddly productive. She is painting, reading, making crafts and enjoying more finer things in life. This makes me appreciate my health more and inspires me to look into my priorities in life.

Sunday morning lil tokyo

Last night I passed out relatively early after a full day of Absinthe, Tecate, cheap vodka with monster which I hate. This morning I woke up at 7 which I have a natural alarm from my unfortunate work schedule. I cleaned up and decided to bike to lil tokyo to get some fresh baked goods for Kim since she broke her foot and is staying at home.

The bike ride was only a few minutes. On this Sunday morning the streets I rode pass were clean and quiet, and the ride was really refreshing and definitely helped with the hangover. i got some really yummy japanese bakery and groceries from Nijiya market.

Haha on a side note. I felt like a monkey in a zoo, when a cleaning crew of 20 workers stopped what they were doing at once, and all stared at me as I locked up my bike, ate, observed around. Some came took pictures with me, some started speaking random japanese words at me. Normally I am not so friendly when I get shout at with arbitrary Asian languages, but this time I had a good laugh and was entertained in return.

Bloomfest downtown block party

Today I got some really good shopping done at Melrose. New red patent belt, white fedora, more thigh highs, a set of angel wings for tonight's party.

I love Saturdays! There is no rush, no office emails...

In the afternoon, my friends came over and took a dive in my roof top pool, then we all walked over to the Bloomfest downtown block party. On the way there I saw this cutest mix Japanese breed dog. The bloke party was organized by Edgar Varela. There were bands, art, film screening, sausage venders, and mostly the great bunch of fun people.

An interesting night

Friday night started out very disappointing. Was invited to a party at Paris hilton, only to be denied at the door. When all contacts failed, I decided to turn around and drive back downtown. Then Casino, another downtown dweller came to the rescue.

First stop Bar 107 was more crowded than usual, the highlight there was this pimp that was very photo-ready. Then Casino suggested Varnish - the hidden bar inside Cole's. I had no idea such a jewel existed half a block from my loft. The bartender was not only skilled but mesmerizing. He hand cracked ice, chose from the beautiful assortment of fresh fruits and garnishes. Each of the 7 of us were given a unique drink. The night ended with laughter, a buzz and really good company.

The Uniform Project

Today I stumbled upon The Uniform Project as part of my daily design research. As an exercise in sustainable fashion, Sheena Matheiken is wearing the same dress every day for a year. This has inspired to to reinvent and reuse some of my old clothes, and stop complaining not having anything to wear.

She says here’s how it works: There are 7 identical dresses, one for each day of the week. Every day I will reinvent the dress with layers, accessories and all kinds of accouterments, the majority of which will be vintage, hand-made, or hand-me-down goodies. Think of it as wearing a daily uniform with enough creative license to make it look like I just crawled out of the Marquis de Sade's boudoir.

The beauty of living downtown… Tonight I walked 3 blocks to the Edison to meet up with some friends. As soon as we walked in, time and modern space disappear. We were transported to a dream place. The food and drink selection were amazing. It’s only Wednesday, but when I saw a waitress dressed as a fairy passing out bottles of absinthe martini, I had to break my rules tonight.

Oil wrestling

Saturday July 11th, I got all oiled up for bikini wrestling along side some of my bestest friends. This was one of the most fun, liberating experience, nearly as exhilarating as sky diving, and also for a very good cause. A benefit for photographer Paula Allen’s continued humanitarian work in The Democratic Republic of Congo.

I really truly bounded with my friends who also participated in the oil wrestling, especially Kim. I admire people who loves to say "Yes"! It's a very powerful mindset, it enables positive experiences and outcome. At first I was a little timid, worried about getting crushed, embarrassed about being in a vulnerable position. At last I got over those fears, and decided to free myself from doubts. I truly liberated myself thru this experience. The power of "Yes"!

Masquerade Ball

Friday the 10th, my friend Anthony of the Night Birds invited me to the Masquerade Ball at the Henry Fonda Theatre. It seemed to be THE ultimate Masquerade. People traveled here from around the country to attend this dramatic yearly event. I usually have no problem going over the top with costumes, and quickly put together a sexy moulin rouge ensemble, only to find myself to be the most dressed down in the crowd. Folks were head to toe covered in movie production quality make up and wardrobe. Most of the elaborate costumes must have been custom ordered, thoroughly designed, and cost at least a month salary. It was like walking in wizard of oz, in real time of Lord of the Ring… As an artist, this was very inspiring. Although I could go without the renaissance music/ flavor and the Medieval accent some were carrying.

July 7th was my friend Notorious Jen’s birthday. It was also Terrell and I’s 2 year anniversary. Instead of being sad and isolate myself once again, I had a blast with my amazing, talented, fun, loyal, beautiful Angelenos. I can’t find anything more meaningful beyond my friendships!

The theme of the party was Candyland. All the girls were dressed in fun bright colors, tutus, pigtails, lots of candies everywhere. TommyB did the photo booth and made us look all fabulous.

July 5th - pool day

After a crazy night of partying until 5 in the morning, we are all still exhausted the next day, and what better way to spend the day after July 4th, than to hang out at my roof top pool. Poor Owen was forced into my booty shorts and got his toes tails painted glitter. We chowed down oysters and drank a ton of rum to delay the hangovers.

Today, 4th of July, was my art show at the Hive. My girls came to support and were all part of the Bee-rotic theme. We started out by watching the fireworks on my rooftop, then we walked one block to the always fun Hive. Of course being in our lingerie, it was a little hazardous for the downtown traffic lol...

Palm Springs wedding

Carly and I danced at a gay club last night. We were exhausted but still woke up before 7am, pathetically we both have early work schedules.

We have 7am to 7pm to kill before the wedding ceremony. Since we are in Palm Springs, naturally the day consisted of laying by the pool, jumping in the pool, walking around the pool, putting our feet in the pool. Oh there is a fabulous pedi and mani to stir in the excitement...

The wedding was simple, beautiful and touching. Carly's friends John and Steve filed for marriage before prop 8 past. Unfortunately for the rest of gay couples in love and want to be recognized in a civil union, they will have to wait till our society actually move forward again. After the wedding we had the will to go out to town to party again, but bodies were disagreeing and we passed out in our hotel room.
